Coaching Philosophy
"My coaching philosophy is that my role is to create a safe and positive environment for athletes to grow and learn. This environment will allow athletes to not fear failure, but see it as progress. The environment created will then help them achieve the ability to be confident contributors, self-reliant learners and critical thinkers. Developing athletes with these skills and habits will lead to success both on and off the court." -- Coach Scheerhoorn
Coaching Philosophy Chart
“To illustrate my coaching philosophy and simplify it I have created this chart. It starts with the 4 pillars of volleyball development which are; tactical, technical, physical and psychological. They are all connected, yet psychological plays a role in that it is even larger than the others on their own. The psychological part of training leads to two key components called; self-efficacy and self-esteem. These two create and are the foundation for what athletes know as confidence. Now with this confidence it does not automatically translate to success. We know that you need to work hard to find success so the 3 terms to encompass this are; discipline, intensity and consistency. Once an athlete trains all of these and uses them they will find optimum performance and success, both in life and sport.” — Coach Scheerhoorn
